Official AUTOParkit Sound Study

AUTOParkit is classified as an Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS). It is not uncommon for automation to be associated with immense sound due to operational equipment. Most factories require employees and visitors to wear hearing protection due to excessive machine noise. Stamping, Cutting, Boring, Welding, and Packaging Machines – all make noise. AUTOParkit stores/retrieves cars in the dark and emits only the hum of an electric motor and the coveance of pallets on top of steel rollers.

BACKGROUND — When AUTOParkit was installed at the Helms Bakery District, a sound report was generated to measure the noise generated by a fully automated parking system. An interesting fact is that the garage is open-air, and no soundproofing measures were taken.

EQUIPMENT — AUTOParkit uses all-electric AC motors that run quietly and produce smooth mechanical equipment that runs smooth. When tours are conducted inside a fully operational AUTOParkit System, the attendees and tour guide never have to raise their voice.

Operating Sound Case Study — Key Findings:

  1. Peak Hours (8:00 AM – 10:00 AM):
    1. Average operational noise level: 62.3 dBA.
    2. Complies with the City of Los Angeles Municipal Code.
  2. Off-Peak Hours (9:00 PM – 10:00 PM):
    1. Average operational noise level: 60.9 dBA.
    2. Initially exceeded the 60.6 dBA limit. However, per the Municipal Code, a 5 dBA adjustment for short-duration noise events brought the level to 55.9 dBA, ensuring compliance.
  3. Nighttime (10:00 PM – 7:00 AM):
    1. No activities were recorded between 10:00 PM and 5:46 AM.
    2. Noise levels during early morning hours (5:46 AM – 7:00 AM) were consistent with peak traffic hour levels and compliant with regulations.
